We're looking for students to play a variety of roles—from attorneys to expert witnesses to funny witnesses to sad witnesses—and we're therefore looking for variety in our members. Some of our team members plan on going to law school. Others are pursuing acting. Still others are just looking for public speaking experience before going on to other fields. But two things unite every member of UCI Mock Trial: we like to have fun together and we want to improve on last year's 12th place finish at Nationals! We hope you decide to join us.
Mock Trial is a competition in which students assume the roles of lawyers and witnesses to simulate a legal trial. If you've seen A Few Good Men, Law & Order, My Cousin Vinny, or any other courtroom drama, then you can imagine what a mock trial looks like: opening statements, direct and cross examinations, closing arguments and even objections.
More than 500 schools from around the country compete and we are UC Irvine's official intercollegiate mock trial team. We travel to several tournaments throughout the season—in places like New York and Arizona—and we also host our own tournament here on campus. The season culminates with the Regional Tournament (in February) and hopefully the National Championship Tournament (in early April).
